It is a matter of honour to testimony the research credentials of GNDU, a leading Institute of Higher Education in the country. The University is recognised under prestigious programs like UPE, CPEPA, MYAS and PURSE etc. Majority of departments have established their excellent research infrastructure supported by DRS, SAP, CAS, COSIST and DST-FIST program. The University faculty members have more than 86 ongoing formal research projects supported by various funding agencies. The University has signed quite a number of MoU's with prestigious universities/institutes in India and aboard to develop research collaboration and interaction with other Higher Education Institutions.

The faculty has been awarded many renowned research awards like FLS, Humboldt Research Fellowship, Indo-US Fellowship for Women, JSPS Fellowship, INSA-International Exchange awards, Indo-Hungary Research Collaboration, DST–J. C. Bose National Fellowship, ICAR–The Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Award and fellowships by INSA, NASI, NAS and NAAS for their outstanding research work.

University has established Central Instrumental Facility with High Resolution Transmission Electron Microscope, Vibrating Sample Magnetometer, NMR spectrometer, Next generation sequencer, Pulse Laser Deposition System, Vector Network Analyser, Amino Acid Analyser etc. Currently, university has 1067 scholars registered for Ph.D. degrees in different disciplines.

The University is making its presence felt by quality publications in journals of high Impact Factors. The faculty members are also actively participating in workshops, and seminars to share their research data. Students conduct research as an integral part of their MS and doctorate degree programs. The students from colleges and other universities are also visiting the university to learn advance research techniques under summer school programs.
