With recognition from UGC as a 'University with Potential for Excellence' and accredited with the highest grade 'A++' by NAAC with a CGPA of 3.85 out of 4, the University stands as a pioneer in innovation, invention and creativity. It has also achieved the prestigious 'Category One' status and is the only university in Punjab and the Chandigarh region to receive this honor. With continuous efforts towards improvement and an unwavering commitment to excellence, the University has earned global recognition, including a place among the top ten 'High Performing State Public Universities' identified by MHRD, Government of India. Its efforts to reduce carbon footprints and maintain a clean campus environment have also been acknowledged by the Ministry of Human Resource Development under the 'Swachhta Ranking' awards.

GNDU has consistently recorded excellent performance in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) introduced by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India. It has stood in the rank band of 51-100 on a national level while securing the 59th position among all universities in the country. It ranked 18th in the pharmacy discipline, 97th in engineering, and 42nd among the top colleges in India in the NIRF Rankings 2023.

Since 1969, Guru Nanak Dev University has emerged as an institution of excellence and a guiding light in all fields of professional, technical, and inter-disciplinary studies. The University has also earned a place in the 'Band A' category under the Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA) owing to its achievements in innovation and technology.

GNDU offers over 150+ academic programs, including undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, certificate, and doctoral courses. With a network of more than 200 affiliated colleges and constituent colleges located across the state, the University has established itself as a premier institution of higher learning.
