Literary Club

The Literary Club of Guru Nanak Dev University has been established to rekindle and nurture the creative spark and artistic passion among students across all disciplines and streams. It serves as a vibrant forum where voices from diverse academic backgrounds converge through the power of words.

GNDU Literary Club

About the Club

In today's world, where societal expectations often steer students towards professional careers in medicine, engineering, law, or technology, the innate passion for creative expression often gets overlooked and suppressed. Yet, as history has witnessed, creative talent often thrives without getting sacrificed at the altar of practicality.

History has seen countless examples of professionals who nurtured their literary passions alongside their careers, proving that creativity and practicality can coexist beautifully.

Lewis Carroll, Thomas Hardy, Arthur Conan Doyle, Anton Chekhov, Franz Kafka, Arthur C. Clarke, John Grisham, Harper Lee, Michael Crichton, Vikram Seth, Khaled Hosseini

The club aims to foster a culture of reading, writing, and critical thinking and encourages students to articulate ideas with clarity, imagination, and conviction.

What We Do

The Literary Club provides a dynamic platform for students to express, explore, and engage with literature in its many forms:

Creative Writing

Storytelling, essay writing, poetry, character sketches, and reflective narratives.

Intellectual Exchange

Talks, debates, elocutions, extempore sessions, and public readings.

Global Literary Awareness

Interactions with renowned authors and scholars from across the world.

Analytical Skills

Cultivating literary appreciation and oratorical skills through practice.

Under the mentorship of Dr Sumneet Kaur and Dr Ujjal Jeet, the club has organised interactions with renowned authors including Atamjit, Sarabpreet Singh, Deepa Aggarwal, Tehmina Aziz Ayub, Rajwant Bajwa, Haroon Khalid (Canada), Cordula Simon (Austria), Tim Brookes (USA), and many more.

Workshops and Learning Opportunities

The club aims for hands-on training and workshops for skill development in students, focusing on creative writing, critical analysis, public speaking, and literary appreciation.

These sessions help students refine their writing techniques, understand narrative craft, and engage with literature as a form of social commentary.

Through its digital outreach, the club maintains a growing repository of student readings, literary performances, and event highlights, making creative expression accessible to a wider audience.
